The Structural Challenges of Open Source Addressed by Epics DAO
Epics DAO is addressing the challenge that, while open source software is widely used as the foundation of society and technology, its core is not sustainably supported.
This challenge does not arise because the importance of open source is misunderstood. Rather, although its importance is recognized, the existence of the work itself has remained largely unknown for a long time.
As a result, a structure has emerged in which evaluations and support fail to gather due to invisibility. When evaluation and support do not accumulate, continued involvement becomes difficult, and despite being foundational, the core remains unsustainable. This situation has been repeated over time.
Epics DAO believes it is first necessary for society to understand that this challenge exists and that a great deal of important work is actually being carried out.
About the NFT Card Game
Under its mission to solve social issues through incentives and fun, Epics DAO is advancing its initiatives in the form of an NFT card game.
About Incentives
Contributions to open source platforms are designed to be rewarded through NFT card packs whose contents vary depending on the type of contribution. For example, there are packs that can only be obtained by developers, meaning that contributing to development creates the possibility of pulling highly sought-after rare cards.
From the perspective of those who play the card game, if development does not progress, cards obtainable from developer-focused packs will not enter the market. As a result, there is a need to involve more developers in the platform.
Fundamentally, it is extremely difficult to find open source developers who are willing to take on such important work and to have them actually resolve issues.
If a movement can be created on the platform to address this challenge, it becomes possible to deliver necessary resources more precisely to where they are needed.

About Fun
To ensure fun, these NFT cards are designed as a competitive card game.
Many NFTs offer no benefits beyond simple ownership, are left unused, and lose value over time, eventually losing users’ interest. To break this structure, NFTs themselves need to have meaning.
Competitive card games function as engaging play experiences in their own right, generating enjoyment through gameplay. Cards drawn from each job circulate through the market, and players build decks using those cards to compete against one another.
